So you want to repurpose your YouTube videos into LinkedIn posts?

You’ve spent hours crafting that perfect long-form YouTube video.

The content is valuable, the editing is on point, but now it’s just sitting there on one platform when it could be working harder for your business across multiple channels.

Maybe you’re hesitating because reformatting seems overwhelming. Or perhaps you’re unsure if your YouTube content will translate well to LinkedIn’s professional audience.

You might even worry that simply copying and pasting content will look lazy or inauthentic.

The good news?

With the right approach, your existing YouTube videos can become powerful LinkedIn content that expands your reach and drives new business opportunities.

Why you should repurpose from YouTube videos to LinkedIn posts

LinkedIn offers a unique opportunity that YouTube doesn’t: direct access to decision-makers and professionals actively looking for insights in their field. While your YouTube audience might be broader, LinkedIn puts your content directly in front of potential clients, partners, and industry peers.

The platform’s algorithm favors thoughtful, value-driven content, and engagement rates for video content on LinkedIn have increased by 50% year-over-year. This means your repurposed YouTube content has enormous potential to generate leads and build your authority in your industry.

Repurposing content isn’t just efficient—it’s strategic. Back in 2020, I created several YouTube videos about note-taking and productivity. On a whim, I decided to repurpose that content for Medium articles. That simple decision to repurpose led to launching a profitable five-figure course and adding 3,000 email subscribers to my list in just 12 weeks. You can read more about that journey here.

The moral? You never truly know which platform will resonate most with your ideal audience until you test. Different content formats connect with different people, and by repurposing, you maximize your chances of finding the right match for your message.

The main differences between YouTube and LinkedIn

Before diving into repurposing, it’s crucial to understand what makes these platforms fundamentally different:

  • Length expectations: YouTube thrives on longer, in-depth content (10+ minutes), while LinkedIn posts perform better when concise (text posts under 1300 characters get the most engagement)
  • Audience mindset: YouTube viewers often seek entertainment or detailed how-tos. LinkedIn users are in a professional mental space, looking for insights that advance their careers or businesses
  • Content style: YouTube allows for personality-driven, casual content. LinkedIn rewards thought leadership and business-focused value
  • Algorithm preferences: YouTube rewards watch time and retention, while LinkedIn prioritizes early engagement and conversational content that generates comments

Understanding these differences helps you transform your content appropriately rather than simply crossposting the same material.

What makes good LinkedIn content

The most successful LinkedIn posts typically share these characteristics:

  • Value-forward approach: Lead with the insight, not the introduction
  • Professional yet conversational tone: Formal enough for business but human enough to feel authentic
  • Formatted for easy scanning: Short paragraphs, bullet points, and plenty of white space
  • Includes a clear call-to-action: Asks for comments, shares, or next steps
  • Tells a story: Frames information within a narrative structure

For example, when Josh Fechter shares business insights on LinkedIn, he doesn’t post his entire YouTube video. Instead, he extracts the key learning moments, presents them in readable chunks, and ends with a thought-provoking question that generates dozens of comments.

Build Your Swipe File Of Winning LinkedIn Content

The best way to create effective LinkedIn content is to study what’s already working. Build a collection of high-performing LinkedIn posts from your industry to understand what resonates.

Look specifically for creators who are relatively new but gaining significant traction. The established gurus with millions of followers can get engagement on almost anything they post due to their existing audience. New creators who are getting lots of engagement are demonstrating what truly works with the current algorithm and audience preferences.

Pay attention to their first lines, how they structure their posts, and what calls-to-action generate the most comments.

Simple workflow to turn YouTube videos to LinkedIn posts

Okay, so now that you have these insights laid out…

You could either do this manually like a monkey.

Hire a VA that you need to train for weeks on Fiverr…

Or (my favorite way):

You could use AI and automation tools to make this process as smooth as butter.

Here’s an example:

As soon as you post on YouTube, it will automatically trigger a workflow that extracts key points and reformats them for LinkedIn. No duplicate work required.

You can start creating automations utilizing specific prompts to save your time. With tools like n8n, Make, or Zapier, you can set up workflows that:

1. Take your YouTube video transcript

2. Run it through ChatGPT with a prompt like: “Extract the 3 most valuable insights from this transcript and format them as a compelling LinkedIn post with appropriate spacing and a conversation-starting question at the end.”

3. Save the output to your drafts folder or schedule it directly to LinkedIn

For instance, I’ve set up an n8n workflow that triggers whenever I upload a new YouTube video. It pulls the transcript, generates a LinkedIn version using AI, then sends it to me for final approval before posting. The entire process takes about 15 minutes of my time versus the hour+ it would take to manually repurpose.

Your existing content is a goldmine of opportunity. Stop letting it sit idle on one platform when it could be building your authority across multiple channels.
