So you want to repurpose your content from Substack Notes to LinkedIn shorts/video?

You know those ideas you’ve been sharing on Substack Notes… The ones your subscribers love and respond to… They’re just sitting there, when they could be building your authority on LinkedIn too.

But something’s holding you back.

Maybe it’s the thought of reformatting everything.

Or perhaps you’re worried about coming across as repetitive to followers who see you on both platforms.

Or maybe—let’s be honest—you’re just too busy to figure out yet another content format.

Why you should repurpose from Substack Notes to LinkedIn shorts/video

LinkedIn has over 930 million professionals actively engaging on the platform.

And since Microsoft introduced video and short-form content, engagement rates have skyrocketed.

The algorithm is hungry for native short-form content, especially video.

When you repurpose from Substack Notes to LinkedIn, you’re essentially:

  • Multiplying your reach with content you’ve already created
  • Tapping into LinkedIn’s professional audience (who may never see your Substack)
  • Building authority in your industry
  • Creating multiple touchpoints with your ideal clients

In 2020, I created YouTube videos about note-taking systems. They performed decently, but nothing earth-shattering. I then decided to repurpose those ideas into Medium articles.

What happened next shocked me:

Those repurposed ideas helped me launch a profitable 5-figure course and add 3,000 email subscribers to my list in just 12 weeks.

The lesson was crystal clear: you never really know what kind of content is going to resonate better on which platform.

The same ideas can perform wildly differently depending on:

  • Platform algorithms
  • Audience demographics and expectations
  • Content format (text vs. video)
  • Timing and trends
  • Context and framing

The main differences between Substack Notes and LinkedIn shorts/video

Substack Notes are:

  • Writing-focused and text-heavy
  • Designed for your existing audience who already know you
  • Perfect for nuanced thinking and longer-form ideas
  • Optimized for newsletter subscribers who want depth

LinkedIn shorts/video are:

  • Visually-driven and attention-grabbing
  • Optimized for professional context and career relevance
  • Perfect for quick, actionable insights
  • More likely to reach new audiences through the algorithm
  • Designed for scrolling professionals with limited time

What makes good LinkedIn short/video content

The best LinkedIn shorts and videos typically:

1. Start with a hook related to career success or professional growth

2. Get to the point within the first 3 seconds

3. Include professional context (why this matters for work)

4. Feature captions (85% of LinkedIn videos are watched without sound)

5. End with a clear, professional call-to-action

For example:

A caption like “3 productivity hacks that saved my business” performs better than “My favorite productivity tips”

A video opening with “The mistake costing most course creators $10K in revenue…” will outperform one that starts with “Today I want to talk about course pricing…”

Build Your Swipe File Of Winning LinkedIn Short/Video Content

The best way to create LinkedIn content that performs well is to study what’s already working. Each platform has its own unwritten rules about what resonates.

PRO TIP: Look for creators who are relatively new to LinkedIn but getting significant engagement. These people don’t have the advantage of a massive following, so their content has to be genuinely compelling. Established influencers can often get engagement regardless of content quality.

This requires some upfront research, but it will pay dividends in your results.

Simple workflow to turn Substack Notes to LinkedIn shorts/video

Okay, so now that you’ve have these laid out…

You could either do this manually like a monkey.

Hire a VA that you need to train for weeks on Fiverr…

Or (my favorite way):

You could use AI and automation tools to make this process as smooth as butter.

Here’s an example:

As soon as you post on Substack Notes, it will automatically trigger a workflow that transforms it into LinkedIn-friendly content.

You can create automations that utilize specific prompts to save your time.

Tools like n8n, Make (formerly Integromat), or Zapier can handle this for you.

Here’s a simple workflow that’s working right now:

1. Set up a Zapier trigger for new Substack Notes

2. Connect it to ChatGPT or Claude with this prompt:

“Transform this Substack Note into a 30-second LinkedIn video script with hook, body, and call-to-action. Format it for speaking, not reading. Include suggested B-roll ideas and captions.”

3. Send the output to your phone as a notification

For video creation, you can use Descript or CapCut to quickly turn the script into a professional-looking video with stock footage.

Stop letting your brilliant ideas live in one platform’s silo when they could be building your authority across the professional world.

Your knowledge deserves a bigger stage.
