So you want to repurpose your content from Medium to X videos?

I get it. You’ve poured your heart into crafting thoughtful Medium stories—but now they’re just sitting there, when they could be reaching an entirely different audience on X.

You’re looking at those viral video shorts on X thinking, “Could my written content work there too?”

The answer is a resounding yes. But there’s an art to it.

Why you should repurpose from Medium to X Videos

Here’s something most content creators don’t realize: you never really know which content will resonate on which platform until you try.

Back in 2020, I created a series of YouTube videos about note-taking. They performed… okay. Nothing spectacular. But when I repurposed that same content into Medium stories? Something magical happened.

Those repurposed articles exploded in popularity, which led me to launch a profitable 5-figure course and add 3,000 email subscribers to my list in just 12 weeks.

Why such a different response? It comes down to:

  • Different audience demographics
  • Platform-specific algorithms
  • Content format preferences
  • Timing and trends

The same knowledge packaged differently can yield dramatically different results.

The main differences between Medium and X Videos

Medium is a long-form, text-based platform where depth and nuance thrive. People come there ready to read for 5-10 minutes (or more).

X videos, on the other hand, are:

  • Visual and dynamic
  • Typically 30-60 seconds long
  • Designed for scrolling audiences
  • Heavy on personality and quick takeaways
  • Optimized for emotional reactions

Why you should post on X

X (formerly Twitter) has evolved from just text to become a powerful video platform. Here’s why it matters:

  • Massive reach potential (240+ million daily active users)
  • Lower competition for video content compared to TikTok or Instagram
  • Highly shareable format that can spread rapidly
  • Ability to reach decision-makers and influence leaders
  • Strong conversion potential to your other platforms

What makes good X video content

To transform your Medium stories into engaging X videos, focus on:

1. Strong hooks: You have 2-3 seconds to grab attention before someone scrolls past

2. One clear takeaway: What’s the single most valuable insight?

3. Visual simplicity: Clean text overlays, minimal distractions

4. Pattern interrupts: Change visuals or pace to maintain attention

5. Call-to-action: Direct viewers somewhere specific

For example, your 1,500-word Medium story on “10 Productivity Hacks” might become an X video that focuses just on the most counterintuitive hack, with text saying: “The productivity technique most people get wrong” followed by your explanation.

Build Your Swipe File Of Winning X Video Content

Before creating anything, collect examples of what’s already working on X.

Here’s the trick most people miss: Don’t study the biggest accounts. Their established audiences will engage with almost anything they post.

Instead, look for creators who were relatively unknown 3-6 months ago but are now gaining serious traction with video content. These are the people who cracked the code recently, without the advantage of a pre-existing audience.

Save these videos in a folder and analyze:

  • What hooks do they use?
  • How do they structure their videos?
  • What topics get the most engagement?
  • What visual elements do they include?

Yes, this research takes time upfront. But it will save you countless hours of posting content that doesn’t perform.

Set up an automation to turn Medium stories to X videos

Okay, so now that you’ve have these laid out…

You could either do this manually like a monkey.

Hire a VA that you need to train for weeks on Fiverr…

Or (my favorite way):

You could use AI and automation tools to make this process as smooth as butter.

Here’s an example:

As soon as you publish on Medium, an automation workflow extracts your key points and transforms them into X video scripts.

You can use tools like Make.com (formerly Integromat), n8n, or Zapier to create these workflows.

A simple automation might look like:

1. Medium RSS feed → detects new article

2. API call to ChatGPT/Claude → transforms article to script with prompt:

“Transform this Medium article into a 45-second X video script. Extract the most counterintuitive or valuable insight. Format as: Hook (5-7 words) + Main point (2-3 sentences) + Supporting evidence + Call to action. Include text overlay suggestions.”

3. Send script to your phone via email or Notion

4. Record video using template in CapCut or similar app

5. Post to X automatically or with one-click approval

This automation alone can cut your repurposing time from hours to minutes.

Stop letting your brilliant Medium content gather dust. Your ideas deserve to spread across multiple platforms—and with the right systems, you won’t need to work twice as hard to make it happen.
