So you want to repurpose your Facebook posts into Instagram Reels?
I get it. You’ve put time and effort into creating engaging Facebook content, and now you’re eyeing Instagram’s explosive short-form video format.
You’re probably wondering if it’s worth the hassle. If those posts can actually find new life (and new audiences) as Reels. If you can double your content’s impact without doubling your workload.
The answer is a resounding yes—but only if you do it right.
Why you should repurpose from Facebook Posts to Instagram Reels
Here’s something most content creators miss: you never really know which platform will resonate most with your expertise until you try.
Back in 2020, I created a series of YouTube videos about note-taking. They performed… okay. Nothing spectacular. Just another set of videos floating in the vast YouTube ocean.
On a whim, I decided to repurpose that content for Medium articles.
The result? Those repurposed pieces exploded. Within 12 weeks, I added 3,000 email subscribers and launched a profitable five-figure course. Same content, different platform, completely different outcome.
This difference happens for various reasons. Each platform has:
- Different audience demographics
- Unique algorithm preferences
- Its own content consumption patterns
- Varied competition levels
The main differences between Facebook Posts and Instagram Reels
Facebook posts are typically text-heavy, can include multiple photos or videos, and often drive engagement through comments and discussions. They’re consumed at a user’s pace, usually while scrolling through a feed mixed with friends, family, and followed pages.
Instagram Reels, on the other hand, are:
- Short-form vertical videos (up to 90 seconds)
- Music and effects-driven
- Designed for quick, attention-grabbing consumption
- Algorithm-favored (Instagram heavily promotes Reels)
- Discoverable beyond your follower base
Why you should post on Instagram Reels
Instagram Reels offer explosive organic reach potential that’s becoming increasingly rare on social platforms.
Unlike regular Instagram content, Reels can easily reach non-followers through the Explore page and dedicated Reels tab. Instagram is heavily investing in this format to compete with TikTok, meaning the algorithm currently rewards Reels creators.
For experts looking to monetize their knowledge, Reels provide a perfect showcase for your personality, teaching style, and bite-sized value bombs that lead viewers to your more comprehensive offerings.
What makes a good Instagram Reel
The most successful Reels follow these principles:
- They hook viewers in the first 3 seconds
- They deliver a clear, singular message or takeaway
- They use text overlays to enhance understanding
- They incorporate trending sounds or music
- They maintain high energy throughout
- They end with a clear call to action
For example, if your Facebook post discusses “5 Ways to Price Your First Course,” your Reel might focus on just one counter-intuitive pricing strategy, delivered with energy and visual examples, ending with a CTA to learn the other four strategies through your link in bio.
Build Your Swipe File Of Winning Instagram Reels content
The best way to create effective Reels is to study what’s already working. But here’s the pro tip most “gurus” won’t tell you:
Don’t just analyze content from established influencers with millions of followers. They can get away with content that wouldn’t work for smaller accounts.
Instead, find creators who are new to the platform but getting significant engagement. These are the ones who have cracked the current algorithm without the advantage of a pre-existing audience.
Look for:
- Accounts with modest follower counts but high views on Reels
- Content creators in your niche who have had recent “breakout” Reels
- Teaching styles that feel authentic rather than overly polished
Yes, this requires upfront work. But it will be worth it to understand exactly what elements to extract and rewrite.

Set up an automation to turn Facebook Posts to Instagram Reels
Okay, so now that you have these laid out…
You could either do this manually like a monkey.
Hire a VA that you need to train for weeks on Fiverr…
Or (my favorite way):
You could use AI and automation tools to make this process as smooth as butter.
Here’s an example:
As soon as you post on Facebook, an automation could extract the key point, convert it to a script optimized for Reels, and notify you that it’s ready for recording.
You can create simple automations using tools like:
- Zapier: Connect Facebook to a Google Doc where your AI-enhanced Reels script is generated
- Make (formerly Integromat): More advanced workflows that can analyze your post engagement
- n8n: Open-source automation with more customization options
A simple workflow might look like:
1. New Facebook post triggers the workflow
2. The content is sent to ChatGPT with a prompt like:
“Convert the following Facebook post into a 30-second Instagram Reel script with hook, main point, and call to action. Include text overlay suggestions.”
3. The generated script is sent to your preferred app (Notion, email, etc.)
Stop thinking, start doing. The algorithms reward consistency and experimentation, not perfection. Your knowledge deserves to be seen beyond the Facebook bubble.
