✦ FREE EMAIL COURSE: 5 Secrets to create meaningful (and personal) content 10X faster with AI

So you want to repurpose your content from Medium to LinkedIn Shorts/Video?

I get it. You’ve spent hours crafting that perfect Medium story. It’s sitting there with some views, some claps. But you’re wondering if it could reach more people in a different format.

The struggle is real.

You know your content deserves more eyeballs, but who has time to create fresh content for every platform? And more importantly—how do you adapt your long-form Medium stories to fit LinkedIn’s short-form video world without losing your message?

Why you should repurpose from Medium to LinkedIn Shorts/Video

Here’s a little secret most content creators don’t talk about: you never really know what kind of content is going to resonate on which platform until you try.

Back in 2020, I created several YouTube videos about note-taking. They did okay—nothing spectacular. On a whim, I decided to repurpose that content on Medium, transforming video scripts into written stories.

That simple repurposing decision? It helped me launch a profitable five-figure course and add 3,000 email subscribers to my list in just 12 weeks. My Minimum Viable Course was born from content that simply performed better on a different platform.

This difference happens due to various factors:

  • Different audience demographics on each platform
  • Platform-specific algorithms that favor certain content types
  • Timing and trending topics vary across platforms
  • Format preferences (some people prefer reading, others watching)

The main differences between Medium and LinkedIn Shorts/Video

Medium thrives on depth. It’s where thoughtful, nuanced stories live—often 5-15 minutes long. People come to Medium ready to dive deep into topics.

LinkedIn Shorts/Video, on the other hand, is built for impact in seconds:

  • Videos are typically under 30 seconds for maximum engagement
  • The first 3 seconds must grab attention or viewers scroll past
  • Content is consumed in professional contexts, often during quick work breaks
  • The algorithm rewards high engagement in short timeframes

Why you should post on LinkedIn Shorts/Video

LinkedIn’s video content gets 5X more engagement than text posts and 20X more shares. With 875 million users and counting, it’s a professional goldmine where decision-makers and industry leaders hang out.

Unlike TikTok or Instagram, LinkedIn video content has less competition but massive reach potential, especially for B2B content creators.

What makes good LinkedIn Shorts/Video content

Your LinkedIn video needs to be:

1. Front-loaded with value: State your main point in the first 3 seconds

2. Visually interesting: Use captions, movement, or visual cues

3. Professionally relevant: Connect to career growth, business insights, or professional development

4. Easy to consume without sound: Many viewers watch on mute in offices

5. Focused on a single, clear takeaway

For example, turn your Medium story about “7 Note-Taking Methods to Improve Retention” into a LinkedIn Short showing just one method with a clear before/after visual demonstration.

Build Your Swipe File Of Winning LinkedIn Shorts/Video content

The best way to create content for LinkedIn is to find what’s already performing well. Every platform has its unwritten rules for success.

Find 10-20 examples of high-performing LinkedIn Shorts that you can study. Save them to a folder and analyze:

  • How they open
  • The pacing and editing style
  • Caption strategies
  • Call-to-action approaches

PRO TIP: Target newer creators who are getting significant traction, not just established gurus. The big names can often break platform “rules” because of their existing audience. New creators who are succeeding usually have mastered the current algorithm better.

Yes, collecting examples takes work upfront. But this research will save you countless hours of trial and error later.

Set up an automation to turn Medium stories to LinkedIn Shorts/Video

Okay, so now that you’ve laid the groundwork…

You could either do this manually like a monkey.

Hire a VA that you need to train for weeks on Fiverr…

Or (my favorite way):

You could use AI and automation tools to make this process as smooth as butter.

Here’s an example:

As soon as you publish on Medium, an automation can extract your key points and transform them into LinkedIn Short scripts. Tools like n8n, Make, or Zapier can handle this workflow.

A simple automation might look like:

1. Medium RSS feed triggers when you publish new content

2. An API call sends your article to an AI service with a prompt like: “Transform this Medium article into a 30-second LinkedIn Short script highlighting the single most valuable insight. Include a hook statement, one main point with supporting evidence, and a clear call-to-action.”

3. The generated script is sent to your email or project management tool

You can even go further by connecting this to text-to-speech tools and automatic video creators like Pictory or Lumen5.

Stop treating content creation like it’s 2010. Start building systems that multiply your reach without multiplying your effort.
